More times often than not, Life has a very interesting way of coming together. When thinking of how to start things off for this month, I was kind of at a standstill. I have special certain Album Reviews lined up this month, so I didn’t want to overdo it when it comes to Top Billing.
And as far as features go, there are ones that just make more sense to be released at a later date. With new additions to the Image Galleries being out of the picture – no pun intended – I decided to look at what the month of May means as a whole and given the options, I found one that really stuck out: Haitian Heritage Month.
While more will be detailed through a feature I put together titled “Haiti: The Pride of the Caribbean,” I would just like to leave a couple of notes here: There is a lot of pride to be found in the fact that both of my parents were born and raised in Haiti. The values and principles that they grew up with are the defining factor in who I’ve grown to be today. Haiti has a unique history in it of itself –
“Haiti became the world’s first black-led republic and the first independent Caribbean state when it threw off French colonial control and slavery in a series of wars in the early 19th century.” -BBC News
With that said, it has been years since I have been there, and I would really like to go again for a lot of different reasons: The people, the culture, and yes, the food. Haitian Cuisine is second to none. Seriously. You’ll see additional notes about this in the feature that I mentioned earlier. I’ve also put together an entry for the occasion titled, “Pride.” Reading both of these will really bring things full circle, so be sure to check them out when you get the chance.
As far as site related updates, this is about as clear of an example as it gets when it comes to how releases go. While doing updates every Monday is ideal, the idea of releases being on the first of the month when applicable makes more sense to me.
As I alluded to earlier, there are a couple of additions to the Top Billing side of the house on the way. These releases are high dependent on the dates dealing with the artist(s) themselves, and I’m definitely looking forward to putting out those for you all to read, comment, and share accordingly. That’s all I have for now, so take care.
